A Shape for All Time

Is it just me, or is the V a timeless shape in clothing for women?  On practically any torso, the V is flattering and shapely, giving you a tiny waist while showcasing “the girls,” if you will.

From stomachers in Elizabethan England and Georgian France…

The spencer, which is one of my favorite jackets…

A deep V from the Victorians (V is for Victoria)…

A few evening gowns from the 1900s…

And, of course, a strapless V from the 50s…

I think it’s pretty safe to say that this shape is here to stay.  Oh, and did I mention shoes yet?
